A few weeks back, I had the opportunity to join a Podcast with Kingdom Business Podcast.
Here are some insights and ideas that arose during our conversation.
I got to share my background and how I got here.
You know, my whole career from when I was straight out of school. I’ve done elements of this and done it both in the capacity of a consultant working for other companies, as well as coaching and mentoring others along the way. And several years ago, I started to look at “what’s the next chapter in my life?” And one of the things you look for is, well, what are you good at what have you done with, and this, which came to the top, was an immediate revelation. But as I continued the process, that’s how I was like, Hey, I’m putting together all the things I’ve done. Experiences, tools, and people I’ve worked with throughout my career, and now I’m focusing on it in a very specific way.
We discussed some of the biggest roadblocks that keep people stuck in their businesses and life.
This is an excellent time of year to talk about it. You frequently talked to people I’ve been there myself, you get to the end of one year, start another, and you realize, yeah, I did stuff last year, I might even grow my business slightly. But I didn’t realize all the ideas I have to move my business to the next level, from just surviving to growing and thriving. So that’s the biggest; the most significant thing I run into is that frustration of how do I get out of the rat race and start working? Many terms use your business, not only your business, but you’re also in your business, you’re working as an employee effectively working on your you’re stepping back and taking a more strategic look at what am I trying to do, right? My vision was this when I started, what do I have to do?
Tim asked a question about the burnout cycle that touched my heart.
How do you go about helping somebody who they are working in their business and they never had the time, and they feel trapped in their casing? They feel like if they stop, that’s just going to fall apart, and they feel like I just don’t have the energy to do and one more thing because sometimes, as a business consultant, you’ll give great advice, but it just seems like one more thing I got to do when my plates already so full. So what do you do in those situations?
So many of us can relate! Here’s what I had to say about stopping the train to burnout.
The first thing I do is more from a coaching standpoint than a consultant standpoint, is related to challenging someone and saying, Okay, you assume you have been right, where do you want to go with this company? What’s your vision? Let’s start with some folks who are like, I never really thought of that. What is your vision, and it’s in the form of what your business will be impacted by your vision better be informed by your vision, if not, you want to look at a different business. But everyone’s done with what it is that you value. And where do you want to go? And this is where sometimes, you know, at a certain point, people have faith and not that, and those that aren’t there yet might diverge in terms of what that is, but even then, there are similarities, and that’s where it starts. And then once you have that, you say, Okay, where’s your business today? Where would you like your business to be tomorrow? And where are the differences? Where are the obstacles that clash between your vision and your business vision, and the reality of business too, right? Because those are three different things with what should be and where it is.
Jim closed us out with some excellent reasons to seek out coaching.
My final word, if you will, is the encouragement to seek a coach Have you already have one or another one I think a lot of people think, hey, I can figure it out on my own. I got this far by myself. I can figure out the rest or Google it and get the answer. But I can’t stress enough the importance of having a coach, no matter how good you think you are. Like, look, just a quick analogy. Look at any professional sport. The most amazing player ever. Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant. You know who pick anyone, right? All those people had coaches to continue to hone their skills, keep them accountable, and help point out areas they could improve. And I just can’t stress enough how important it is to have a coach in your corner to help you take it to the next level. So if you don’t have one, start seeking start here. But yeah, you should have one.
I couldn’t have said it better myself!
I’d love to know what stuck out to you.
